AP PORTFOLIO STAGE 2: REVISED INQUIRY
Why do others perceive death as something negative and how do we change that universal belief to something more positive and reassuring?

Direct Oil Painting - "Happy Death Day"
Oil on Wood, 12 x 16

How it fits the inquiry: Shows an image of me smiling underneath what some would consider to be a morbid sign (demonstrating the positives of death).

Surrealist Still Life
Graphite on Paper, 9 x 12

How it fits the inquiry: More practice wth surrealist elements. Figure looks both dead and alive with its lifelike body but exposed jaw for a head. Holding a candle between its teeth, representing a new fire waiting to be lit.

Portrait of Robert Downey Jr.
Oil on Paper, 7.5 x 7.5

How it fits the inquiry: It doesn't really fit the inquiry, was primarily necessary practice with values, shadows, and portraiture.

Surrealist Painting Prep - "Mysterious Figure"
Graphite on Tracing paper, 12 x 16

How it fits the inquiry: The preparation for my surrealist painting; It shows a figure composed of geometric shapes, organic matter, and both human and animal skeletal parts. Meant to represent how death is viewed in a negative light.
